Five Verified Rate Increases Surface as Bank

Pricing Remains Mostly Steady

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2026 | 5 AM institution refresh | Latest market benchmarks through October 9

Executive summary. Today's refresh surfaced five exact-comparable increases of 25 basis points apiece, but 112 of 117 matched deposit observations were unchanged. Four changes involved Customers Bank CDs and one involved a qualified

Service Credit Union savings tier. Importantly, their disclosed effective dates precede today. Four institutions were added, bringing the first-party coverage universe to 74 institutions; the best fresh liquid-savings APY remains 4.20%.

1 / Rate Environment

Deposit rates are mostly stable, with isolated verified increases: 5 of 117 exact-comparable observations rose (4.3%), 112 were unchanged (95.7%), and none declined. These changes were discovered in today's refresh, not necessarily effective today; new institution/product baselines are excluded. Borrowing conditions remain elevated: Friday's Treasury yields rose across the curve and the latest 30-year mortgage benchmark is 7.40%.

2 / Today's Numbers

3 / Biggest Verified Moves

Exact-comparable product Prior APY Latest APY Move
Customers Bank 3-month CD 3.60% 3.85% +25 bp
Customers Bank 6-month CD 3.55% 3.80% +25 bp
Customers Bank 9-month CD 3.50% 3.75% +25 bp
Customers Bank 24-month CD 3.45% 3.70% +25 bp
Service CU Service+ Savings, first $25k 3.25% 3.50% +25 bp

Effective-date caveat: Customers Bank's comparison is June 30 vs. September 25; Service CU's is September 1 vs. October 1. These are newly verified differences since the prior observation, not evidence of October 11 repricing. No verified cut occurred in today's refresh.

Seven-day collection window (Oct 5-11): 15 increases, 359 unchanged, 1 cut among 375 strict comparable observation-pairs (4.0% / 95.7% /

0.3%). The largest rise was EverBank's 24-month CD, +95 bp to 4.35% (captured Oct 9); the largest cut was EverBank's 7-month CD, -50 bp to

3.60% (captured Oct 9). The ledger excludes six Ally CD comparisons with unspecified maturity and counts repeated daily matches separately.

4 / Where Savers Are Winning

Current leaders below have fresh official effective dates in the tracked panel. Savings APYs and CDs can require qualifying deposits, minimum balances or a fixed term.

Category Fresh verified opportunity APY Condition
Liquid savings Newtek Bank high-yield savings 4.20% No stated relationship requirement
Qualified savings Happen Bank LevelUp Savings 4.20% Qualifying monthly deposit
Promotional savings First National Bank of America 4.20% New money; first six months
Money market CFG Bank High Yield Money Market 4.05% $1,000 minimum
6-month CD Happen Bank 4.30% $500 minimum
7-month certificate Consumers Credit Union (IL) 4.45% Super jumbo; $250,000 minimum; membership
12-month CD CFG Bank 4.46% $500 minimum
18-month CD CFG Bank 4.50% $500 minimum
24-month CD Happen Bank 4.60% $500 minimum
120-month CD First National Bank of America 4.65% $1,000 minimum; ten-year commitment

Newly captured Affinity, American Heritage, Patelco and Redneck Bank offers broaden coverage, but rates classified as aging or undated are not promoted as fresh leaders. Redneck Bank is an internet division of All America Bank; it is not counted as a separate parent bank.

5 / Borrower Watch

Freddie Mac's October 8 survey reports a 7.40% average 30-year fixed mortgage rate, up 12 basis points from 7.28% the prior week; the 15-year average increased 13 basis points to 6.73%. Against Friday's 5.24% 10-year Treasury yield, the indicative 30-year mortgage-to-Treasury spread is 216 basis points. Prime-linked borrowing remains anchored to 7.00%;

SOFR is 3.87%. The mortgage and Treasury readings are not contemporaneous, so the spread is an indicative comparison, not a live lender spread.

6 / Yield Curve and CD Strategy

Term Best fresh CD APY Treasury par yield Nominal leader
6 months 4.30% 4.32% Treasury +2 bp
1 year 4.46% 4.47% Treasury +1 bp
2 years 4.60% 4.80% Treasury +20 bp
5 years 4.50% 5.02% Treasury +52 bp
10 years 4.65% 5.24% Treasury +59 bp

Short-term CDs are close to Treasury yields; the Treasury nominal-yield advantage widens over two to ten years. Liquid savings at 4.20% is below the one-year Treasury yield but allows greater access to funds. Treasury par yields and CD APYs are not identical return measures.

Taxes, insurance limits, market-price exposure and withdrawal penalties also differ.

7 / Bank Behavior

Four verified increases in today's strict panel came from Customers Bank and one from Service Credit Union. These reflect newly verified historical repricing, not same-day changes. Because numerical recapture covered only 18 of 106 official sources, there is insufficient balanced evidence to declare which institution category is moving rates fastest nationwide.

Fresh institution-level comparison Banks / digital-oriented Credit unions
Savings: leading APY per institution 6 institutions; 3.81% mean 1 institution; 0.10%
12-month CDs/certificates 6 institutions; 4.13% mean 4 institutions; 3.23% mean
Newly surfaced increases 4 (Customers Bank) 1 (Service CU)

Cohorts are small, uneven and nonrandom. The online-vs-large-national-bank premium is withheld until adequate matched national-bank observations exist.

8 / OnlineBankRates Takeaway

Today's refresh uncovered five verified deposit-rate increases, but it does not show a market-wide surge. All five increases were 25 basis points and came from earlier-dated Customers Bank and Service Credit Union disclosures. Most matched products—112 of 117—were unchanged. Fresh liquid savings still reaches 4.20%, while a 12-month CD can earn 4.46% and a 24-month CD reaches 4.60%. Longer lockups do not automatically deliver better yields: the top 10-year CD pays

4.65%, below the comparable Treasury benchmark. Borrowers face elevated costs, with the latest 30-year mortgage average at 7.40%. Four newly verified institutions expand the choices being tracked, but their first observations are not rate movements. For consumers, the key is to compare actual terms, balance requirements, withdrawal restrictions and the effective date of each quoted APY.

9 / Proprietary Metrics

Measure Oct 10 published Oct 11 Interpretation
Savings Index v2 3.22% 3.28% Fresh panel expanded from 6 to 7 institutions

Index trend: Savings Index v2: Oct 8 2.97%, Oct 9 3.33%, Oct 10 3.22%, Oct 11 3.28%. CD Index v2: Oct 8 3.97%, Oct 9 3.61%, Oct 10 3.73%,

Oct 11 3.77%. These daily cross-sectional averages are affected by changes in fresh-panel composition, not just same-institution repricing.

Earlier October 1-7 editions used a broader v1 methodology and are not directly comparable.

Data, Methodology & Disclosure

Freshness: Fresh = official effective date within seven days; aging = 8–30 days; stale = more than 30 days; undated = no reliable effective date. The v2 Savings Index averages each institution's highest fresh Bank Verified savings APY once per institution. The v2 12-Month CD Index uses each institution's highest fresh exact-12-month CD/certificate APY once per institution. Promotional products remain eligible only with conditions disclosed. Best Cash Yield is the highest fresh savings/money-market APY, excluding checking and stale/undated offers.

Comparability: Rate Breadth requires an exact prior/current match of institution, product, term, tier, relationship and geographic requirements. Products without a specified CD maturity are excluded. A verified change describes the difference between dated observations, not the day the bank implemented it. Seven-day breadth counts comparable observation-pairs, so repeat checks of one product may appear multiple times.

Pending metrics: Fed Pass-Through Score = the fixed-cohort average change in comparable deposit APYs divided by the effective-funds-rate change across the same policy window. Online-vs-National Bank Premium = matched-cohort mean APY at online banks minus that at large national banks. Neither is published without adequate matched historical/cohort coverage. Index history retains the October 8 v2 methodology break.

Consumer disclosure: APYs can change without notice. Minimum deposits, membership, geography, promotional periods, monthly activity and early-withdrawal penalties may apply. Treasury yields and bank APYs differ in compounding and risk/liquidity features. This report is general market information, not personalized financial advice.
