CFG Bank Lifts Four CD Rates as Mortgage Costs
Remain at 7.40%
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2026 | Latest completed 5 AM first-party refresh | Official market data through October 9
Executive summary. Deposit pricing was largely stable in today's strict matched panel: four increases, 88 unchanged observations and no verified cuts. CFG Bank raised four standard CDs by 10-20 basis points; a separate FNBA savings-promotion change is excluded from breadth because eligibility metadata changed. Coverage expanded from 64 to
70 institutions. Treasury yields ended Friday higher, and the latest 30-year mortgage benchmark remains 7.40%.
1 / Rate Environment
Deposit rates are mostly stable, with selective increases. Of 92 exact-comparable observations, 4.3% increased, 95.7% were unchanged and none declined. Borrowing benchmarks remain elevated: Friday's two-, five- and ten-year Treasury yields rose, while the latest weekly mortgage benchmark increased 12 basis points.

Quality control: The source workbook flags a fifth increase at First National Bank of America (4.00% to 4.20% savings promotion). It is not counted as exact-comparable because the latest offer specifies new-money and six-month conditions not matched in the prior record. No cut qualifies today. Over October 4-10, the conservative comparable ledger shows 10 increases, 265 unchanged observations and one cut; repeated daily observations are counted separately.
4 / Where Savers Are Winning
The following are the highest relevant fresh Bank Verified offers in the captured panel. Eligibility, balances and promotional terms matter.
Opportunity Institution / product APY Terms
---
Broad savings Newtek Bank high-yield savings 4.20% No stated relationship requirement
Conditional savings Happen LevelUp Savings 4.20% Qualifying monthly deposit
Promotional savings FNBA High Yield Savings Promotion 4.20% New money; first six months

24-month CD Happen Bank CD 4.60% $500 minimum
120-month CD FNBA certificate of deposit 4.65% $1,000 minimum; 10-year commitment
Selected long-term yields are high, but the highest nominal CD rate requires a decade-long lockup. Rates are observations, not guarantees of continued availability.
5 / Borrower Watch
Freddie Mac's 30-year mortgage average rose 12 basis points to 7.40% in the October 8 release; the 15-year average increased 13 basis points to 6.73%. Friday's 10-year Treasury yield closed at 5.24%, placing the indicative 30-year mortgage-to-Treasury spread near 216 basis points, compared with roughly 200 basis points using the previous week's readings. Prime remained at 7.00%; overnight SOFR eased to 3.87% on October 8.
6 / Yield Curve and CD Strategy
Maturity Best fresh CD Oct 9 Treasury Nominal leader
---
6 months 4.30% 4.32% Treasury +2 bp
1 year 4.46% 4.47% Treasury +1 bp
2 years 4.60% 4.80% Treasury +20 bp
5 years 4.50% 5.02% Treasury +52 bp
10 years 4.65% 5.24% Treasury +59 bp
Short-term CDs nearly match Treasury yields; longer-maturity Treasuries retain a wider nominal advantage. CD APYs and Treasury par yields use different conventions. Treasury market prices, taxes, deposit insurance, early-withdrawal penalties and liquidity affect the comparison.

7 / Bank Behavior
Today's four strictly matched increases all came from CFG Bank; 88 other matched observations were unchanged. Six newly verified institutions contributed initial baselines and cannot be treated as increases or cuts. The refresh is a partial, nonrandom panel, so no institution group can reliably be called the fastest-moving nationwide.
Fresh panel comparison Bank / digital-bank group Credit unions
---
Savings: leading APY per institution 5 institutions; 3.84% average 1 institution; 0.10%
12-month CDs/certificates 6 institutions; 4.13% average 3 institutions; 2.93% average

Cohorts are small, uneven and not nationally representative. Large traditional-bank observations are insufficient for a publishable
Online-vs-National Bank Premium.
8 / OnlineBankRates Takeaway
Deposit rates are not rising across the board, but today's refresh found a few meaningful improvements. CFG Bank increased four standard CD rates, including its 18-month offer to 4.50% and its 12-month offer to 4.46%. Most matched products did not move: 88 of 92 exact comparisons were unchanged. For accessible cash, freshly verified savings offers still reach 4.20%, while the leading money-market account pays 4.05%. The strongest captured CD reaches 4.65%, but it requires a 10-year commitment. Treasury yields remain competitive at short maturities and offer a clearer nominal advantage further out. Borrowers face elevated costs, with the latest 30-year mortgage average at 7.40%. Newly discovered products and changed promotional terms are not automatically rate increases. Consumers should compare eligibility, balance minimums, liquidity and the date behind each quoted APY.

Methodology and Data Integrity
Freshness: Fresh = official effective date within seven days; aging = 8-30 days; stale = more than 30 days; undated = no reliable effective date. Fresh-only leaderboards and v2 indexes exclude aging, stale and undated rates. Each index averages the highest qualifying APY once per institution within its defined category; the 12-month CD Index uses exact 12-month CD/certificate maturities. Promotions are included only with their conditions clearly identified. These indexes measure the tracked panel, not a national market average.
Rate Breadth: Product-level prior and current records must match institution, category, product, maturity, balance tier, relationship/eligibility and geography. Today's workbook flags five changes; one FNBA promotional-savings change was excluded because its eligibility metadata differed. The rolling seven-day count includes repeated daily product observations. Fed Pass-Through Score: reserved for the change in a fixed matched deposit panel divided by the effective federal funds-rate change over the same pre/post-policy period; not calculated until a sufficiently complete fixed cohort exists. Online-vs-National Premium: average comparable APY difference between adequately sampled online and large-national-bank cohorts; currently unavailable.
Disclosure: Institution rates originate from the October 10 OnlineBankRates first-party dataset and official institution rate disclosures. Rates may change, and eligibility, membership, geography, balance, deposit activity and penalties can affect actual returns. Figures are informational and are not individualized advice.
